Redalto Backup Mail Server
13 October 2007
For web hosting clients who run a Private Mail server, Redalto Communications offers a secondary mail server as a backup.
Customers running a private mail server can sometimes experience outages. During these times it is important that no incoming email is lost. To ensure incoming mail is not lost, customers running their own mail servers should use a Backup Mail Server.
Redalto Communications offers a Secondary Backup Mail Server to all Business Hosting Customers as a standard feature.
How does Backup Mail Server work?
- The Redalto upMail Server (Backup Mail Server) is defined in the customer’s DNS configuration as a secondary mail server
- If the Primary Mail Server becomes unavailable for any reason, the Backup Mail Server will queue all incoming mail until the primary mail server becomes available again
- The Backup Mail server will attempt to deliver mail to the primary mail server approximately once every 1 - 4 hours. The frequency depends on current loads on the backup server and can be less than 1 hour. As soon as the Primary Mail Server becomes available, queued messages will automatically be delivered, and any new messages will automatically be delivered directly to the primary mail server.
- Incoming mail is queued in the Backup Mail Server for up to 7 days. If
the Primary Mail Server is still unavailable after a 7 day period, mail
will begin to bounce back to the email senders

- No lost email in the event of an outage at your private mail server
