Answer:

Below is a brief overview of the various Microsoft ASP web programming technologies. Whether or not to use ASP, ASP.NET 1.1, ASP.NET 2.0 or ASP.NET 3.0 is a question best asked to your website developer.

Active Server Pages (ASP or ASP Classic) is Microsoft's Server-side script engine for dynamically-generated web pages. It is an add-on to Internet Information Services (IIS). Programming ASP websites is made easier by various built-in objects.

ASP.NET is a set of web application development technologies by Microsoft. Programmers can use it to build dynamic web sites, web applications and XML web services. It is part of Microsoft's .NET platform and is the successor to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) technology.

ASP.NET 1.1 was released April 2003 and provides improved scalability and performance, support for Internet Protocol version 6, and native communication with Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Oracle databases.

ASP.NET 2.0 was released November 2005 and introduces a number of new features such as new data controls like GridView, 'master pages', and improves in areas such as Support for 64-bit processors and full pre-compilation.

ASP.NET 3.0 includes a new set of managed code APIs that are an integral part of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. Unlike the previous major .NET releases there was no .NET Compact Framework release made as a counterpart of this version.x
