Question: Configuring Outlook Exchange Manually

This question relates to category Hosted Exchange

Answer:

First, make sure the PC client is running Microsoft Outllook 2003. If you have purchased a PC & Web exchange account - this comes with a free Outlook license. (Click here to get Outlook 2003).

1.

Go to Control Panel and double click on "Mail" icon

2. Firstly make sure to check how many people are accessing your computer. If more than one people use your computer, setup multiple profiles before continuing to the next step
3.

Select "E-mail Accounts > Add a new e-mail account" and click Next

4.

Select "Microsoft Exchange Server" and click Next

5.

In the next dialogue box, enter the following information:
> the Microsoft Exchange Server name : mapi-au.server-exchange.com
> Make sure the tick box "Use Cached Exchange Mode" is checked.
> The "User Name" is the mailbox number (eg, mb123456a - see welcome email for this info)

6.

Within the same window, click "check name". You will be prompted to enter more information. Depending on how many fields are presented, enter the following information;

If a 3 FIELD prompt is shown enter the following information:
_. username = mail box number
_. password = normal password
_. domain = exchange

If a 2 FIELD prompt is shown enter the following information:.
_. username = exchange\mail box number
_. password = normal password

Clicking OK will initiate a process whereby your computer checks with the exchange server to validate the user name and password (You need to be connected to the internet to do this). After a little while the 'add new email' dialogue box will return with your user name auto-completed and code for the exchange server field. This means the validation was successful. If you are prompted to re-enter the information, do so as it may take several attempts for the Exchange server to process the information. Once successful, click Next to continue.

7.

You will then be prompted with a dialogue box with some information. Click Yes to continue. Another pop-up dialogue box will appear - click "Yes". Once the process is completed you will be returned to the 'Mail' dialogue box. Click Finish or OK to complete the mail setup process

8.

Open Microsoft Outlook 2003. You will now be prompted for a username and password. Unlike Outlook Express, you will need to type in your password everytime you log into the Exchange server. This is a security feature. The first time you open Microsoft you will notice your previous inbox (if you were already using Outlook) can now be found under 'Outlook Today - Personal Folders' You will see a new mail box titled "Mailbox - User Name" where user name is the name of your Exchange account as configured on the server

9.

Define Mail Box delivery
This is an important step to ensure new mail is delivered to the 'exchange' folder (the folder that is synchronised with the server).
Go to Tools > Email accounts > At the bottom of the dialogue box you will see "Deliver new e-mail to the following location". In this drop down box, select the "mailbox - user name" associated with your Exchange account as the location where new emails will be delivered.

Alternative Exchange Server Connection Method (Secure HTTP)
