We will discuss your requirements and setup the Spam Filter to best suit your needs.Hide your Email Address on your Website
It is a well known fact that spambots (automatic search tools that scan websites for email addresses) roam the world-wide-web in search of email addresses to add to their spam databases. For this reason it is important to ensure your email address cannot be seen by spambots on your website. There are a number of ways you can hide your email address on your website, without removing the ability for your legitimate visitors to contact you.
Every website that is developed by Redalto Communications has the following safety mechanisms in place;
- For contact forms we embed your email address in the script so spambots can't find it.
- For visible email addresses, we have a special javascript that hides the email address from spambots, yet allows it to be seen by the ordinary web surfer.
Things You Can Do To Reduce Spam
- Never respond to unsolicited bulk email even if it is to say you want to be removed from the mailing list. Doing so is providing confirmation to Spam operators that your email address is current and active. This will increase the probability that your email address will be sold to other Spammers.
- Take precaution in how you advertise your email address. When you publish your email address on the web, you are taking the chance that it will be picked up by Spambots. It is as important to take proper precautions with your own website as it is with getting your business listed in any other website or business directory
- When using bulletin boards, newsgroups, forums or any other form of public communication on the internet, use an email address that is different from your main email address. Use an email account that you are less concerned about if it starts to fill with Spam. If you publish your email address on a public forum, it is highly likely that it will be picked up by a Spam operator
- Never give your email address to an organisation that does not provide a clear Privacy Policy. If you are asked to provide an email address make sure you only do so if the company is legitimate and it is clear as to why they need your address. If there is doubt, refrain
- If you recognise an email to be spam, don't open it. A lot of emails these days are HTML based (includes web code) and when opened will send a message back to the originator that your email address is active. Again, this will increase the probability that your email address is passed on to other spammers.
- Don't purchase anything that is advertised in Spam. Doing so will only encourage more spam.
Not all unsolicited email is Spam
In general Spam is defined as unsolicited "bulk" email. Spam email is that which has been sent to thousands of email addresses indiscriminately and mostly anonymously.
Unsolicited email can also be in the form of direct email that is personal and targeted (one-to-one). This is not regarded as Spam. Advertising by email can be a useful tool like advertising by post or TV. Take a moment to assess the email to ensure you're not unnecessarily blacklisting a legitimate company who may well be able to provide you with a good service.
