Question: How do I Access Exchange via BlackBerry?

This question relates to category Hosted Exchange

Answer:

To use BlackBerry with your Hosted Exchange account you must do the following:

1. Check that you have all the prerequisites for using BlackBerry
2. Order BlackBerry Access to your Hosted Exchange Account
3. Activate your Blackberry device

1. Pre-requisite Criteria to using BlackBerry

To use BlackBerry with your Hosted Exchange account, you need to ensure you have the following prerequisites:

i.
A BlackBerry mobile device or device with BlackBerry software
ii.
A mobile phone plan with data access (GPRS plan)

iii.

In addition to GPRS access, your mobile phone plan must be enabled for
"BlackBerry Enterprise Server" **
iv.
A Redalto Hosted Exchange Account

** Note: Once you have your GRPS plan with your mobile carrier, you need to request that it be enabled for BlackBerry. There are generally two types of BlackBerry services available:
1. BlackBerry Internet Server (often referred to as BIS or ‘individual’); and
2. BlackBerry Enterprise Server (often referred to as BES or ‘enterprise’).
It is essential that you ask for BlackBerry Enterprise Server, as this will provide the correct Access Point Name (APN) for you to connect to Managed Exchange with your BlackBerry device.

2. Order BlackBerry Access to your Hosted Exchange Account

Before you can use BlackBerry with Exchange you need to upgrade your Hosted Exchange account. Contact us for more information. Upon completion of the upgrade order, you will receive an activation email with a BlackBerry 'activation password'. As soon as you've received this you can proceed with activating your BlackBerrry Activation.

Note: the BlackBerry activation password is only valid for 24 hours from issuance. If you haven't activated your device within 24 hours please contact us to have a new one issued.

3. Activate your BlackBerry device

To activate your BlackBerry device with Exchange, use the Enterprise Activation on the options menu. Type in the email address of user@mydomain.com, replacing user@mydomain.com with your email address, then type in the password that was sent when your BlackBerry Access was activated..

If the device does not have the Enterprise Activation option available you can activate the device using Blackberry Desktop Manager. The procedure is as follows:

i.
Configure the Managed Exchange profile ensuring Cached-Mode is not ticked.
(Tools > Email Accounts > View/Change > More Settings > Advanced Tab)
ii.
Download and Install the Blackberry Desktop Manager client as per instructions below:
www.redalto.com.au/support/installing_blackberry_desktop_manager_version_4_0.html
iii.
Download and Install the Blackberry Handheld Manager as per instructions below:
www.redalto.com.au/support/installing_handheld_manager.html
Note : This is only for Blackberry Branded devices.
iv.
Start Blackberry Desktop Manager and follow the Wizard.

After this procedure your Blackberry will be activated and will be ready for use.
