Question: How do I create a Link?
This question relates to category HTML Text Editor
Answer:
Creating a hyperlink within a Content Page is a simple process. Within the HTML Text Editor, highlight the word or image you wish to make linkable. Then do the following:
1. Click on the Hyperlink icon
to open the Link options window.
2. In the "URL" field, type the location of the file, page, or object you are linking to. Links can be defined as 'relative' or 'absolute' (see note below)
3. The "Target" field defines the behaviour of the link click action. Although there are 4 options, you only need to know about the first two (2):
(i) 'same frame (self)' : this means that the link will open in the same browser window
(ii) 'new empty window (_blank)' : this means that clicking the link will open the link in a new window.
4. Simply click 'OK' to return to the page you were editing (you can ignore 'Title') .
You will now see a link within your content which when published will redirect your web visitors to the location you've defined.
Relative vs Absolute URLs
A "relative URL" is a link that points to an location on your website. The link is relative to your site root. For example '/images/image.jpb' is interpreted by the server to mean 'yourdomain.com/images/image.jpg'.
An "absolute URL" is a link that points to an location anywhere else on the internet. This will require you to input the "http://www.external-website.com/" web address prior to the page. The easiest way to define these links is to simply copy and paste them from your browser address bar.
